Removing and fitting a cartridge wheel bearing (on the vehicle)
How to change a cartridge wheel bearing (Generation 1) on the vehicle
- 1
Remove the wheel. Be careful with this type of assembly. These bearings are fitted with a magnetic encoder which must always be installed on the inside of the vehicle.

- 2
Remove the brake calliper and its clevis.

- 3
Remove the brake disc.

- 4
Remove the wheel hub.

- 5
Remove the ASB wheel speed sensor.

- 6
Undo the steering ball joints and knuckle, then remove the driveshaft.

- 7
Remove the locking ring from the knuckle (circlip)

- 8
After choosing the correct tool diameter, remove the inner ring from the wheel hub bearing.

- 9
Replace the extracted inner ring on the bearing.

- 10
Install the extractor on the knuckle.

- 11
Install the extractor on the knuckle.

- 12
Install the new bearing.

- 13
After refitting the new locking ring, reinstall the wheel hub.

- 14
Reinsert the driveshaft into the wheel hub.

- 15
Reassemble the parts in the reverse order of disassembly, observing the tightening torque.
The final tightening of the driveshaft nut should be done with the wheel hanging, never with the wheel on the ground, as this could destroy the bearing.
