Water pump: how to apply sealant correctly
How to seal a water pump
- 1
Remove the timing belt.
To find out more, watch our video tutorial.
- 2
Remove the water pump (WP).

- 3
Clean the mating surface on the engine block.
Do not use aggressive products. Clean with a cloth or plastic spatula

- 4
Install the new water pump (WP).
If the water pump is fitted with a gasket (paper, metal or O-ring), do not apply any sealing product (gasket paste). The paste could obstruct the coolant circuit and become lodged in the pump's internal seal, causing a leak.

- 5
OPTION - Add the sealant to the groove in the water pump.
- If the water pump is not fitted with a gasket, it is necessary to seal it with a sealant. SNR does not recommend a silicone product but recommends an anaerobic product (which polymerases in the absence of air). In this way, if any excess product enters the circuit, it will be dissolved in the coolant and will not affect the performance of the water pump.
- Take care to apply only a very thin layer of paste in the groove of the mating surface.

- 6
Refit the water pump (WP) from the SNR timing kit (KDP).

- 7
Tighten the bolts using a spanner.

- 8
Replace the timing belt.
The belt should end at the water pump pulley.
